Ronald Pettway, 26 years old, suffers from myasthenia gravis, a chronic autoimmune neuromuscular disease that causes weakness in the skeletal muscles. The disease started when he was 2 years old.
When Ron was 4 years old, he had his first thymectomy in order to remove the thymus. This gland has been demonstrated to play a role in the development of myasthenia gravis. Ron ended up having three thymectomies because his thymus kept growing back.
"I’m kinda happy, but not completely happy with my life. For about 4 years I’ve long had the fear of getting old and even now I feel the need to really give the last of my 20’ my best and to acquire what I’ve long sought after for many years: a music career.”
